Mission statement
A mission statement is a formal short written statement of the purpose of a company or organization. The mission statement should guide the actions of the organization, spell out its overall goal, provide a sense of direction, and guide decision-making. It provides the framework or context within which the company’s strategies are formulated.
My opinion: A mission statement is so vital because it will be the guidelines that will define a company. It is important because people know where company is going. It creates challenging goals for company and its members

Very rightly added brother mission statement definately gives an indication about the company's core aims and objectives. It provides a strong base to a business.
umm........ how does it provide a strong base for a business? I think Mission Statements are just an out-dated way of marketing, just to tell the customers that you're a good guy. They're long, difficult to remember and no one, your employees, your customers and even you yourself have difficulty explaining them. If you need a whole set of jargon to define your organization and can't express yourself to your customers and employees in simple terms, than that means that you really don't know what you're doing yourself. Which in turn means that the business isn't gonna progress/ succeed. Which means it is better to have a small "mantra" (search Guy Kawasaki) which helps you tell everyone really what you do and what meaning it has to the world. I can't see how mission statements "provide a strong base for business"
Aims and objectives are the starting point for a business strategic planning which altogeter work as a base for a business in carrying out its opertions effectively.
OKay....... tell me. who is the mission statement designed for? who is supposed to read it?
I don't get paid to tell you about things. Stop wasting your and my time and be mature and relevant in your commenting.
@ Hashmi,
Dear that's not polite and humane manners.
He has asked you a question in a most reasonable and sensible way possible for him. And. In real world, you would have to do all kinds of work well outside your job description. Read: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2009/12/different-kinds-of-work.html.
Toor brother this guy has a tendency to distrub others. See what he did irrelevant questions just to tease others, and please be partial in your conclusion.
He started this "copy paste" nonsense by going to Sir Manan and trying to increase his TC points rather than CP points and now he has a big task to aimlessly distrub other.
