Five Word of Mouth Marketing Strategies You Can Use

As i describe what is WOMM in the other post so these are the startegies which u can use in WOMM..
1. Leverage Existing Social Networks. Online communities have a tightly knit group of users who can help to increase brand awareness for your product. Tap into these communities with tools or content targeting their specific sub-culture and you are likely to get a lot of attention.
These can include applications for platform-specific websites like Facebook, Firefox and Wordpress, which each have a large body of users. Content which examines, mentions or analyzes mini-communities or sites within large overall niches will work as well.
2. Target the Influencers. Look for individuals who are trend-setters or authorities on a specific topic. They should preferably be individuals who have many personal connections or a large and loyal audience.
If these people spread your message, your website or product will very easily be disseminated within a targeted group of potential users.
Identify these influencers, build a relationship with them and market through their existing sphere of social influence. Examples of influencers include celebrities, power users on social websites like Digg and popular webmasters or bloggers with many loyal supporters (e.g.
Ashley Qualls).
3. Exclusivity and Scarcity. Many websites or businesses launch virally through the
private beta approach by offering a limited number of site invites. Some dangle the bait of limited edition products or temporal discounts. Combine this with influencer marketing and you’ll have an excellent method to disseminate brand awareness for new websites, products or services.
Exclusivity invites curiosity and scarce products generate consistent demand and conversation. Remember how people were incessantly asking for or writing about Gmail, Joost or
Pownce invites a while ago?
4. Micro-Market. While online viral marketing leverages the interconnectedness of the web to spread unique content or user-supported promotional schemes, micro-marketing focuses on marketing to the individual by providing highly customizable products.
Nike and Puma’s Mongolian Buffet are examples of micro-marketing schemes which allow you to design and purchase your own unique sneaker online. Micro-marketing can be combined with scarcity and existing social networks to generate word-of-mouth exposure.
5. Industry Marketing. Instead of focusing directly on customers, focus on the people who can build your brand. Instead of seeking for thousands of views from a wide audience, make your mark within a niche community (like
Sphinn) to build relationships and leverage-able connections.
Get recommendations from others in the similar industry to be mentioned, promoted or included in an industry-specific ranking or recommendations list. This builds your overall brand within a specific niche, which in turns promotes your site to traditional media and buyers looking in from the outside.
If you were a consumer, would you buy from a reputable brand that is recommended by many others within the same industry or would you go for a little known company with no reputation or recommendations?

What is WOMM?

Word of Mouth Marketing (WOMM) is a form of promotional campaign which operates through an individual’s personal recommendations of specific brands, products or services.
Like its literal meaning, word-of-mouth marketing spreads from one person to another outside of a formalized setting, without heavy intervention by advertisers.

Understanding the Role of Social Media in Marketing

Social media represents low-cost tools that are used to combine technology and social interaction with the use of words. These tools are typically internet or mobile based. A few that you have probably heard of include Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube.
Social media gives marketers a voice and a way to communicate with peers, customers and potential consumers. It personalizes the "brand" and helps you to spread your message in a relaxed and conversational way.
The downfall to social media, if you could call it that is that it must be a part of your everyday life in order to keep the momentum and attention you need for it to be successful.
If you think that social media is only for the small business owners that are trying out an experiment, I have to correct you. Here are just a few companies that have become involved in social media:
  • Absolut Vodka - Online Video on YouTube and Using Facebook to house their Top Bartender fan page.
  • BMW - Utilizing Facebook to promote their 1-Series Road Trip and they have created a Rampenfest Page for fans.
  • Dunkin Donuts - That's right they've found value in social media and have set up a microblogging Twitter account.
  • The role of social media in your marketing is to use it as a communication tool that makes you accessible to those interested in your product and makes you visible to those that don't know your product. Fact is social media is so diversified that it can be used in whatever way best suits the interest and the needs of your business.

Public relations vs. marketing

The agendas of public relations and marketing are different. Marketing is interested in the market — consumers and demand. Public relations is interested in relationships — reducing conflict and improving cooperation.Good public relations will create a healthy environment for marketing. But simply providing technical support for marketing is not the same as good public relations.

An important study on excellence in communication management identified four major public relations models:
  • Promotion and publicity (one-way communication/hype)
  • Applied journalism (one-way communication/credible)
  • Research, persuasion (two-way communication, win/neutral)
  • Dialogue, mutual solutions (two-way communication, win/win)

The same study found that excellent organizations were associated with three factors:

  • Effective organizations treat PR as a management function.
  • The most effective model of PR involves dialogue and mutual solutions.
  • The commitment of key leaders and asking the right questions are critical.

The two critical questions were:

  • How do we manage our interdependence with the community?
  • How do we develop excellence within our organization?
The bottom line is a balance of receivables and payables. Marketing adds value by increasing income. Public relations adds value by decreasing the expenses that are necessary when issues are ignored.

Consider the alternatives to these situations:

  • Activist groups being satisfied with your performance.
  • Customers comfortable that they can count on you.
  • (or) Donors being loyal to you when money is tight.
  • Employees respecting you as a good and fair employer.
  • Fewer people feeling like suing you.
  • Journalists knowing you to be responsive and credible.
  • Legislators seeing you as ethical and having public support.
  • Neighbors not minding your presence on their street.
  • Shareholders regarding you as competent and competitive.
  • Your industry considering you a leader.
Marketing and public relations both work best when they're treated as distinct management functions. These two functions can pull together as equals on a team, and this works to integrate the business process.

Role of Marketing in Business

Marketing is perhaps the most important activity in a business because it has a direct effect on profitability and sales. Larger businesses will dedicate specific staff and a department for the purpose of marketing. It is important to realize that marketing cannot be carried out in isolation from the rest of the business. For example:
The marketing section of a business needs to work closely with operations, research and development, finance and human resources to check their plans are possible. Operations will need to use sales forecasts produced by the marketing department to plan their production schedules. Sales forecasts will also be an important part of the budgets produced by the finance department, as well as the deployment of labor for the human resources department.A research and development department will need to work very closely with the marketing department to understand the needs of the customers and to test outputs of the R&D section.

Three Basic Rules for Management Communication

1. Tell them in advance
This brings up rule number one. Whether you’re dealing with salespeople, floor-sweepers or doctors, anytime you as a manager need to make a decision that affects peoples lives, tell them well in advance of the event taking place. At work, this usually affects the pocketbook or the employee’s benefits.

2. Give enough information
Another communication problem that will come back to bite managers and supervisors is miscommunication, being misinterpreted.A second rule of communication then, for those in authority, is to provide sufficient information for the employee to be able to answer the question "Why?"

3. Ensure your messages are congruent
What about non-verbal communication? I’m not talking here about tone of voice and hand gestures, although that stuff is critical for effective communication too. I’m referring to a more global aspect of management communication that I’ll simply call congruency.
By following these rules the manager's should build a strong relation with customers due to which the co workers work hard for the development of their company.theses 3 rules was given by karl walinskas

Defining SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

Stands for "Stock Keeping Unit," and is conveniently pronounced "skew." A SKU is a number or string of alpha and numeric characters that uniquely identify a product. For this reason, SKUs are often called part numbers, product numbers, and product identifiers.
SKUs may be a universal number such as a UPC code or supplier part number or may be a unique identifier used by a specific a store or online retailer. For example, one company may use the 10 character identifier supplied by the manufacturer as the SKU of an external hard drive.
