Marketing Genius

If i tried to sell an ordinary rock, do you think anyone would buy it? I'm sure your answer is a huge NO, but I beg to differ. consider the following example and give your feedback.

wow!i cant imagine someone buying a rock just because it marketed and packaged very nicely. the people who bought it were really really stupid

Well, I won't say that people who bought the rocks were stupid. Maybe, the rocks were marketed in such a manner that the consumers were not able to resist the marketing offer.
The positioning of the product has been amazing. The producer has tried to convince the consumers that the product can play an excellent role as a pet and also as a decorating piece.
In the end, its all about product differentiation. If you have a crazy idea, and if you know how to profit from that idea, nothing is better than that. The post reminded me of Mr. Bean. How he used to consider and love his teddy bear like an ordinary pet.
