Many companies may like to think that facebook or other social media network sites maybe a very effective tool for marketing. Well, who can deny that; but who wants it if it entails a loss in productivity by 12+%? "Indian firms are losing productivity because office staff spend too long on social networking sites, a survey says.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) says workers use Orkut, Facebook, Myspace and Linkedin for "romancing" and other purposes.
"Close to 12.5% of productivity of human resource in corporate sector is misappropriated each day since a vast majority of them while away their time accessing social networking sites during the office hours," according to the findings of Assocham's Social Development Foundation survey.
"As a matter of fact, [the] growing use of browsing sites can be dangerous for overall productivity and IT companies have already installed software to restrict its use," Assocham secretary general DS Rawat said."
Something from the statistical results now:
The survey found that 77% of workers who had Orkut accounts used them during work hours.
Nearly half of office employees accessed Facebook during work time.
Moreover, four in every 10 workers built their entire Orkut or Facebook profile at work, the survey found."

i think that these social networking sites should be blocked in schools, colleges, offices etc, because mostly people are on these sites all day long
that's a very sane viewpoint. some hospitals in England have completely banned Facebook. This society is most ignorant about the philosophical implications of technology, which be very dangerous, as evidence shows..

in my openion blocking s of no use.. can still open these sites even if these r blocked. i think instead of blocking these sites .. just check from the server which employees r using these sites.. and then pay palanty them on the spot.. this mathod will reduce the use a lot more.
Well i dont know how this thing can be stopped but it should be stopped in offices and workplace..social sites should not be allowed to use in workplace so that employees do not deviate from their work..
