Try to use dark colors in your presentation slides background, especially if you're presenting to executive. Why? Simple. Dark color is not a color at all, it's the absence of a color. Therefore, 'it's soothing to the eyes'. Moreover, your audience are allowed to narrow down their focus on the written words. Steve Jobs perhaps made a good use of this principle.

O yeah,
the darkness of the background relaxes us, as it seems to remind us of rest, as well as being in a movie. In consequence, using a dark background has a calming effect on the audience, as well as creates the expectancy of entertainment.
but there is a problem with dark background
you have to make sure the size of text on your slides is large enough. This is because dark backgrounds have the tendency to seep into the edges of the text, making it more difficult to read, especially if the text is small.
